- Born on 4 September 1893 to parents John and Juliette Schroeder in Hicksville, Defiance, Ohio
- At age 10, his father passed away. He was only 52.
- In the 1910 Census, he was 16 years old and working at a Paper Mill along with his two older brothers in Kalamazoo, MI.
- Married Mabel Vorce on 30 November 1911 in Kalamazoo, MI when he was 18 years old. They had two children together, a daughter, Helen in 1912 and son, Arthur in 1914.
- In 1918 his wife, Mable passed away leaving him a widow with 2 young children. She died of influenza and was only 25 years old.
- In the 1920 Census, he is listed as a Paper Cutter for a Stationary Company.
- Married Alma Lois Vanocker on 10 December 1920 in Kalamazoo, MI
- His daughter Bernice was born in 1924 when he was 30 years old and then their daughter, Carol was born in 1940 when he was 47 years old.
