Headstone

Cecil and Leona are burried in Riverside Cemetary in Andrews, Indiana. Their plot was located just down the road from their home on Main Street. After Cecil passed away, Leona walked to visit his grave every single day. 

Crocus Story

While visiting their gravesite in July 2022, Cecil and Leona’s granddaugher, Sherla, narrarated this video sharing her memories and story of the crocus bulbs she gave Leona.

After the visit, we discovered that Leona had written the following sweet poem about them.

Leona Gladys Zerbe Jennings

Resident of Andrews the last 39 years, Cecil Ray Jennings, 72, died at 7:45 p.m. Friday in Huntington County Hospital, where he had been a patient for the last 10 days. He had been ill since July 1.
Mr. Jennings, who was employed as a machine operator with the Kitchen Maid Corporation during his residence in Andrews, was born March 21, 1892, in Polk Township to Gilbert and Sarah Miles Jennings. He married Leona Zerbe on April 28, 1913, in St. Joe, Mich. He was a member of the Andrews Methodist Church.
Surviving are the widow, four sons, Arthur of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Howard of Rt.1 Huntington, Myron of Andrews, and Robert of Huntington; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a brother, Miles Jennings of Rt. 2 Lafontaine, and two sisters, Mrs. Glen (Belle) Campbell, Andrews, and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Ralston, Cumberland, Md.
Friends may call in the Deal Funeral Home at Andrews until noon Monday when the body will be removed to the Andrews Methodist Church where friends may view prior to the services at 2 p.m. with Rev. O.S. Crain, Pierceton, and Rev. Norman Nightingale officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Services Held For Cecil Ray Jennings
Funeral services for Cecil Ray Jennings were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Andrews Methodist Church with Rev. O.S. Crain and Rev. Norman Nightingale officiating. Mrs. Gordon Schaefer was the singer with Mrs. George Kellam at the organ.
Pallbearers were Ronald Douglas, Kenneth and James Jennings, J.D. Hill and David Snyder. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. The body was at the Deal Funeral Home prior to the services.
